Bruce Highway Action Plan

Prepared in 2012, the Bruce Highway Action Plan sets out a detailed 10-year program of works to improve the safety, flood immunity and capacity of the Bruce Highway.

Proposed projects include:

  • Safety improvements, including provision of wide centre line treatments, intersection improvements and safer roadsides through safety barriers, clear zones, flatter slopes, rest areas and stopping places.
  • Flood immunity improvements, including raised embankments, culverts, bridges, bypasses and flood warning systems.
  • Capacity improvements, including provision of additional lanes, town bypasses, managed motorways, grade separation and intersection upgrades.

The Bruce Highway Action Plan led to the development of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, a now 15-year program of works which commenced in July 2013.
