Be aware of new rules around schools

Be aware of new rules around schoolsSchool's back and standardised school zone times are being introduced to help make roads around schools safer for children.

All school zone operating times will be progressively standardised to 7-9 am and 2-4 pm, unless specifically signed, and by Easter, all school zones in south-east Queensland will be on the new times.

Some zones changed from the first day back at school in January, while the rest of the state will have standardised zones by July, as signs are being gradually rolled out.

All-day school zones will also be introduced at split-campus schools where students need to cross a road to attend class and special flashing lights will be used to draw attention to these zones.

The changes will make it easier for motorists to remember when to slow down and take extra care.

A 'New rules around schools' campaign has started to educate the community about changes to school zone times and signage being implemented.
