Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS)

A person can apply for accreditation to inspect and measure vehicles of more than 4.5 tonnes gross vehicle mass (GVM), or trailers of more than 750kg aggregate trailer mass (ATM) prior to registration under the Heavy Vehicle Registration Assessment Scheme (HVRAS).

This accreditation scheme falls under the provisions of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995.

The objective of the accreditation scheme is to provide people with accreditation to inspect heavy vehicles and trailers to ensure they comply with:

  • dimensional limitations
  • approved load sharing axle systems guidelines
  • safe tyre limits
  • vehicle identifiers (for example: engine number, vehicle identification number and chassis number).

For more information about how to become accredited under HVRAS, download the HVRAS information sheet.

You should contact 13 23 80 if your enquiry relates to anything other than applying to become an accredited person in the HVRAS scheme, such as registering a heavy vehicle.
