Fatigue management module
Module description The National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme now includes the fatigue management module as its third module. Under this new module, there will be two working hour options to replace the existing transitional fatigue management scheme and fatigue management pilot program.
If standard hours are not suitable for your operation, you may consider basic fatigue management or advanced fatigue management.
| Module |
Requirements |
| Standard Hours |
Drivers can work up to a maximum of 12 hours in any 24 hour period. |
Basic fatigue management (will replace transitional fatigue management scheme) |
More flexible hours than standard hours. Drivers will still be permitted to drive 14 hour shifts. It will help manage the risk of working long hours and night work. In return, accredited heavy vehicle operators get a greater say in their work and rest schedules.
|
Advanced fatigue management (will replace fatigue management pilot program) |
More flexible hours than both standard hours and basic fatigue management. Operators can develop their own fatigue management system to meet the specific risks of their business.
|
Participants who joined the transitional fatigue management scheme and fatigue management pilot program before 29 September 2008 and who wish to operate under an exemption from the fatigue regulation must work under basic fatigue management driving hours. However, these participants will have a 12 month period to change to one of the new fatigue options by 28 September 2009. If participants have not transitioned across to either of the two fatigue management options by 28 September 2009, they will revert to the standard hours option.
