Laboratory Information Management System

The Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) project will deliver a solution to improve the department's ability to manage the resourcing, costs and integrity of construction and materials testing data for all road projects. It aims to establish:

  • a single state-wide system to support materials testing, analysis, and reporting
  • a system for the department and external organisations to manage all testing activities and the related information for department-funded road projects
  • a strategic alliance between Queensland’s construction and materials testing industry and the department.

Benefits of the LIMS project include:

  • significant risk mitigation of non-compliance in construction practices and materials
  • improved business management of materials services activities
  • improved road construction planning and testing
  • improved business continuity

The table below shows how the LRS and LIMS projects are linked.

Laboratory Registration System
(LRS)
Laboratory Information
Management System (LIMS)
All organisations in the construction materials testing field will be required to register with the Laboratory Registration System in order to continue to perform work for the Department of Transport and Main Roads. All organisations which are registered under the LRS to perform work for the Department of Transport and Main Roads will be required to use the LIMS solution for the department's work.

The LIMS solution is being configured in stages where the sytem is gradually built to meet the needs of the department.

This configuration work will continue into 2012 with a phased rollout of training to the department's laboratories first and then to the industry laboratories.
