Compliance and enforcement

Compliance and enforcement aims to:

  • improve compliance outcomes for road safety, infrastructure and the environment
  • minimise the adverse impacts of road transport on the community
  • minimise unfair competitive advantage within the heavy vehicle industry.

New changes to compliance and enforcement laws

On 29 November 2010, additional penalties and sanctions relating to compliance and enforcement laws were introduced. Enforcement of these changes commenced early 2011.

There are four new sanctions which come under two classifications, administrative (issued by an authorised officer, such as a Transport Inspector or a police officer) and court imposed orders (issued by a court after a conviction for a heavy vehicle related offence).
