Heavy vehicle safety working group

The Road Freight Industry Council (RFIC) is identified as a peak government body and as such is an instrument of change. One objective of the RFIC is to promote industry safety and in accordance with this objective, the RFIC established the RFIC Heavy Vehicle Safety Committee in April 2008 to lead the development of initiatives to improve heavy vehicle safety.

Campaigns

The heavy vehicle industry partnered with the Queensland Government to address the issue of wearing seatbelts in heavy vehicles to improve the chances of drivers surviving a crash.

The 2009 ‘One click could change your future’ campaign shows the dangers of not wearing a seatbelt. The campaign uses a compelling image of a seatbelt as a spine in an X-ray image, providing a strong reason for heavy vehicle drivers to wear a seatbelt. The brochure was distributed to drivers through the department’s Customer Service Centres and by the industry members of the Road Freight Industry Council.
