Special Purpose Limousines

The introduction of Special Purpose Limousines (SPL) on 3 November 2008 saw an increase in the types of vehicles that are able to provide limousine services in Queensland. Special Purpose Limousines are restricted to providing wedding, formal and tourist services. There are two classes of vehicles that can operate as Special Purpose Limousines:

• vehicles more than 30 years old
• stretched vehicles that are too old to operate as a standard limousine (see schedule 4 of Transport Operation (Passenger Transport Regulation 1995).

To be eligible for a Special Purpose Limousines service licence you must:

• have current Operator Accreditation (for either and individual or organisation) and Driver Authorisation if you will be driving passengers in the vehicle
• complete and lodge your Limousine Service Licence application form (F2975), available from the applications forms page
• wait for approval from the Passenger Transport office
• arrange for your vehicle to be inspected
• take your approval letter and Certificate of Inspection to your nearest Department of Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre and pay the annual Special Purpose Limousines fee, where you receive Special Purpose Limousines number plates.
