Taxi Industry Health and Safety Committee

The Review of Taxi Driver Remuneration and Conditions of Work recommended the establishment of a Taxi Industry Health and Safety Committee. The review examined options to improve working conditions for taxi drivers and identified Queensland taxi drivers who are engaged in bailee/bailor relationships and are not subject to Queensland workplace relations laws.

The review recommended the Taxi Industry Health and Safety Committee examine various issues to ensure taxi drivers receive fair workplace health and safety protection and accident insurance coverage.

These issues include:

  • development of a health and safety management system
  • introduction of security cameras
  • provision of worker and vehicle insurance
  • options for display of driver identification
  • publishing and making known the obligations, roles and responsibilities of all participants in the taxi industry.
