Pavement Design Manual

The Pavement Design Manual provides requirements for the design of new pavements for the department. For most fundamental pavement design principles, Austroads methodology is used as detailed in 'Part 2: Pavement Structural Design' of the Austroads Guide to Pavement Technology (Austroads, 2008).

The Pavement Design Manual sets out supplementary and specific requirements for the design of pavements for the department. It includes requirements for pavement types, reliability, subgrade assessment, climatic considerations, material characterisation, traffic, design and comparison of designs.

The Pavement Design Manual must be read in conjunction with the other components of the Pavement Design System, including the Austroads Guide, specifications and test methods.
