Traffic and Road Use Management Manual (TRUM)

TRUM cover The Traffic and Road Use Management (TRUM) manual is issued under the authority of Section 166 of the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act 1995. The guidelines in the TRUM Manual shall be considered as "approved notices" under Section 166 (2) of the said Act. The design of, and the methods, standards and procedures in relation to every sign, signal, marking, light or device, which is contained in the TRUM Manual shall be considered as Official Traffic Signs under and within the meaning of the said Act. These devices are erected by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and local governments for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding traffic on the road system in this state.

The purpose of the TRUM manual is to convey recent developments in traffic and road use management practice in an efficient and timely manner, pending its adoption in the revelant part of Australian Standard 1742, and ultimately, in the Queensland Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Where there are conflicting provisions in the TRUM Manual and the MUTCD, and when the TRUM Manual provision was published after the relevant provision in the MUTCD, the TRUM Manual provisions take precedence over the MUTCD. In all other cases, the MUTCD takes precedence.

The Manual will be revised and updated as new information and techniques become available. Therefore, feedback from users is essential to the continued relevance of the document. Feedback should be submitted as indicated on the 'Document Content Feedback' page at the front of the manual.
