CapacityWhile it is important to encourage use of public and active transport and improve network efficiencies, there is still the need to build on the region’s existing transport infrastructure.

The region will have more capacity to meet the needs of the growing community through projects such as:

  • major and arterial road construction projects
  • new tunnels
  • more public transport infrastructure including:
    • rail upgrades and extensions
    • busways
    • bus priority measures
    • station upgrades.

Investing in infrastructure plays an important role in combating climate change by improving public transport efficiency and reliability, making it a more attractive travel option.

Success so far

The Inner Northern Busway (Brisbane Central Business District to Herston) was delivered six months ahead of schedule and caters for 250 buses in the morning peak period. This has greatly improved the reliability and consistency of bus services in the city.
