The Department of Transport and Main Roads FAQs
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has collated the most commonly asked questions our customer service officers receive and listed them below. If your query is not answered here, please call our general enquiries line on (07) 3405 0985.
How do I change my address/order a new address label for my driver's licence?
You can change your address online through the Change Customer Address online service and at a licence issuing centre or by phoning 13 23 80. Higher rates apply from mobile phones and pay phones. For international callers, please phone +61 7 3405 0985.
This service applies to all transport registration and licensing-related products.
Changing your address online
When notifying the department of a changed address, please use the address shown on your rates, electricity or phone bill or any other official item that displays your address.
The department's address standards are based on the Australian Standards used by Australia Post in their address database. If the information you enter online does not match these standards it may be automatically corrected.
Some new addresses may not yet be in the Australia Post database. Until they have been provided to us by Australia Post, you may not be able to update your address online.
How do I obtain my traffic history record?
If you are currently in Queensland and wish to obtain your Queensland traffic history record, please visit a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre.
More information on the forms you will need to complete before you visit the customer service centre is available on the Release of Information page on our website. This page also contains details on obtaining traffic history records while outside of Queensland.
How do I pay a fine (infringement notice)?
You can pay a camera detected infringement notice through our Pay camera detected offence online service. You can also pay by visiting a Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre, or via telephone on 13 23 80. Higher rates apply from mobile phones and pay phones. For international callers, please phone +61 7 3405 0985.
You can pay a hand-written infringement notice issued by Queensland Police Service, Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol, Marine Inspectors and Translink through our Pay infringement notice online service. Please note: For hand-written notices there is a processing delay of at least 7 days after being issued before they can be paid online. Most but not all hand written infringements become available to be paid online between 14 and 21 days after issue. If your infringement is still outstanding after this time, please review the other payment options before the due date.
More information on paying infringement notices, including Voluntary Instalment Plans, is available on the Traffic Infringement Notices page on our website.
How do I check my demerit points?
Due to privacy restrictions, you can only access your personal demerit point information by visiting a Transport and Main Roads Customers Service Centre with your Evidence of Identity documents or by phoning 13 23 80.
More information on demerit points is available on the Licence demerit points page on our website.
How do I sell my vehicle/buy a vehicle?
If you have purchased a new vehicle, you can find information about registration on the Registering vehicles page on our website.
If you are buying or selling a used vehicle, you can find information, including Buyers' and Sellers' checklists, on the Buying or selling a used car page on our website.
