Bruce Highway - Overtaking lanes between Proserpine and Bowen

Overview:
We are constructing a northbound passing lane north of Dingo Creek and a southbound passing lane south of Emu Creek, between Proserpine and Bowen.

The new overtaking lanes will increase capacity and improve safety on the Bruce Highway between Proserpine and Bowen.

Project info

Construction has begun of a northbound passing lane north of Dingo Creek and a southbound passing lane south of Emu Creek, between Proserpine and Bowen.

The works will provide more opportunities for motorists to safely overtake other vehicles including trucks, buses and vehicles towing caravans which will help reduce the number of risky manoeuvres motorists sometimes make to overtake these vehicles.

Delivery of this project has been brought forward, as part of the Queensland Government's Accelerated Works Program, to generate immediate employment opportunities in the district.

An average of 21 direct jobs will be supported over the life of the project.

Key milestones

  • May 2016: Detailed design completed
  • May 2016: Tenders called
  • July 2016: Contract awarded to Doval Constructions
  • September 2016: Construction commenced
  • March 2017: Completion expected, weather permitting
