Bruce Highway (Veales Road to Pope Road) widening

Overview:

Widening a section of the Bruce Highway and installation of wide centreline treatment on the northern approach to Townsville.

Location:

Bruce Highway, between Veales Road and Pope Road, approximately 20km north of Townsville.

Completion:

Construction commenced in July 2016 and was completed in January 2017, ahead of schedule.

Benefits:

This upgrade will improve safety, freight connectivity and efficiency for road users travelling the national highway, including the thousands of residents who commute from Townsville’s northern beaches.

Supplier:

Seymour Whyte Constructions delivered this project.

Funding:

$3.98 million funding includes:

  • $3.186 million committed by Australian Government
  • $796,000 from the Queensland Government.

Project info

This project will deliver vital improvements to road safety, freight connectivity and productivity by widening the road, and applying a 1m wide centre line treatment.

This project forms part of the Queensland Government’s Accelerated Works Program, aimed at supporting local workers. An average of 11 jobs will be supported over the life of the project. Construction is expected to commence in July 2016.
