Bruce Highway overtaking lanes (Bannisters Bog to Didgeridoo Lagoon and West Barratta to Jerona Road)

Overview:

Construction of overtaking lanes at 2 locations on the Bruce Highway, south of Townsville.

Location:

Bruce Highway, between Bannisters Bog and Didgeridoo Lagoon and West Barratta and Jerona Road, approximately 70km south of Townsville.

Completion:

Construction commenced in July 2016 and is expected to be completed in February 2017.

Benefits:

This upgrade will create safer overtaking opportunities for motorists and improve efficiency on the highway between Townsville and Ayr.

Supplier:

BMD Constructions have been awarded the tender for construction.

Funding:

$15.66 million Australian Government funding includes:

  • Bannisters Bog to Didgeridoo Lagoon: $5.86 million
  • West Barratta to Jerona Road: $9.8 million.

Project info

Bannisters Bog to Didgeridoo Lagoon: This project involves the construction of a southbound overtaking lane and is expected to support an average of 18 jobs over the life of the project.

West Barratta to Jerona Road: This project involves the construction of southbound and northbound overtaking lanes and is expected to support an average of 30 jobs over the life of the project.

These projects will deliver vital improvements to road safety, freight connectivity and productivity, and form part of the Queensland Government’s Accelerated Works Program, aimed at supporting local workers. Construction is expected to commence in July 2016.
