Burnett River Bridge replacement (Monto-Mount Perry Road)

Overview:

Reconstruction works to replace the Burnett River Bridge on Monto-Mount Perry Road are now complete and the bridge is open for use.

Location:

North Burnett.

Benefits:

The previous single-lane, timber bridge was washed away during Severe Tropical Cyclone Marcia in 2015. The new concrete bridge provides greater flood immunity and improved safety.

Regions:
Wide Bay Burnett Region, North Coast Region

Project info

Construction of the new 2-lane concrete bridge started in August 2016 and included re-aligning the road approaches to meet current design standards.

The new bridge has been built wider to accommodate 2 lanes of traffic with road shoulders for improved safety. The curves of the bridge approaches have been reduced to improve motorist visibility and flood immunity has been improved.

There will be some ongoing works until the end of June 2017 (weather permitting) to remove the temporary river crossing and restore the river banks to their previous condition. This work is not expected to impact traffic using the new bridge.

The department thanks motorists and road users for their patience while these vital reconstruction works were being completed.
