Cairns Transit Network

Cairns Transit Network is the first busway planning project of its kind in regional Queensland. It will improve public transport in Cairns by giving buses priority, either in separate bus lanes or on dedicated bus-only lanes (busways) which will be separated from general traffic.

The Cairns Transit Network is a long-term vision to enable people to move around Cairns on public transport now and into the future. It will connect Cairns from Palm Cove to Gordonvale and the neighbourhoods in between.

The network will improve public transport by giving buses priority by either providing separate transit lanes or dedicated bus-only roads. It will help make public transport an attractive alternative to travelling by car. The transit network will make trips fast, frequent and reliable. This is a long-term vision for the future of Cairns, and is planned to be built and opened in stages.
