The Department of Transport and Main Roads has reconstructed a 1km section of the Captain Cook Highway, between Andreassen Road and Craiglie, north of Cairns.

Location:

The works involved the installation of rock blankets on the sub-grade of the road to help with drainage, stabilising the pavement and widening the road to nine metres, where possible.

Benefits:
- The works occurried as part of Operation Queenslander, which is
the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland’s history, rebuilding communities, fixing infrastructure and restoring regional economies.
The result will be improved travelling conditions for this key tourist route -

LDI Constructions Pty Ltd is delivered the work on behalf of the department.

Funding:
- The reconstruction work was delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative. Under these arrangements, the Australian Government provides 75% of the funding, with 25% from the Queensland Government. The State Government is contributing additional funding for the widening works.
The works were valued at $1.6 million -
