Community info

The construction of new pavement and a 1.2km overtaking lane (eastbound) between the Gamgee Road intersections will meet capacity and efficiency demands for long-term road freight and transport needs in the region. It will also support safe, high-speed travel and improved access to regional townships.

The project will provide:

  • improved safety for road users along the D’Aguilar Highway between Caboolture and Kilcoy
  • new overtaking opportunities through providing an eastbound overtaking lane. between the Gamgee Road intersections, and improving safety through a 1m wide painted centre median to separate traffic lanes along the length of the overtaking lane
  • enhanced safety and access to Gamgee Road intersections
  • smoother drive for motorists through pavement rehabilitation on a 2.1km section of highway
  • better visibility through vegetation being cleared from a number of locations.

Traffic delays

From late January 2016, lane closures commenced to allow pavement rehabilitation works on the existing highway lanes and construction of the new overtaking lane between R Williams Road and Gamgee Road (west) on the D’Aguilar Highway. These single lane closures are required to allow the project team to safely complete rehabilitation works on the highway. This work is scheduled to be completed in late 2016, weather permitting. As part of these works, lane closures, reduced speeds and stop/go traffic control will need to continue to ensure the safety of motorists and workers. Motorists can expect minor delays and are encouraged to allow extra time to travel through the work area.

Traffic controllers are in place during the day (7am–5pm, Monday to Friday) and outside of these hours roadwork signals operate on an automated system. The project team are working to manage traffic flow more efficiently at peak times and reduce the onset of congestion. They will continue to monitor the queuing lengths and make adjustments to traffic conditions changes as required.

Gamgee Road (west) temporary closure

To avoid highway traffic detouring onto local roads, Gamgee Road (west) will be temporarily closed until project completion scheduled for late 2016, weather permitting.  Local motorists travelling to Gamgee Road will be diverted via the new Station Road intersection.

Upgrade completion

The project is scheduled for completion in late 2016, weather and construction conditions permitting.
