Eton Range planning study
The planning study is investigating the feasibility of a new alignment over the Eton Range on the Peak Downs Highway.
The Eton Range is located on the Peak Downs Highway, approximately 40km west of Mackay.
The objective is to improve safety, accessibility and freight efficiency on the Eton Range by constructing a new alignment with enhanced overtaking opportunities.
- $1 million – state government
- $14.5 million – federal government
- Mackay Whitsunday Region
The project involves design of a new alignment for the Eton Range crossing.
Field works being undertaken to provide design inputs include survey, geotechnical, environmental and archaeological investigations.
Possible construction funding options will be assessed once the design is sufficiently advanced to enable preparation of a realistic cost estimate.
- Surveys completed 2009
- Options analysis completed – December 2011
- Commence business case – January 2012
