Traffic management

The department is using a range of methods to minimise traffic impacts and promote safe and efficient traffic flow during this upgrade. The following changes are in place throughout construction:

  • The general speed limit through the construction site has been temporarily lowered to 80 km/h for safety reasons.
  • Two lanes of the Ipswich Motorway will be open in each direction between 5.00 am and 8.00 pm Monday to Friday.
  • Outside these times, the motorway will frequently be reduced to one lane in each direction so construction can continue. This may result in minor delays and restrictions for vehicles wider than 4 m.

Excess dimension transport

From Goodna to Gailes, the width between concrete safety barriers is 8.8 m, excluding on and off ramps. Approval is required to transport excess dimension vehicles/loads through the Ipswich Motorway roadworks. Applications can be lodged by completing the Western Corridor excess dimension transport application form. Applications are to be e-mailed to apps.wcorridor@tmr.qld.gov.au or faxed to (07) 3137 8922 during business hours of 9 am to 5 pm Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. Applications should be submitted before 10 am to ensure assessment within 4 business days. For more information on the application procedure, please refer to the Excess dimension transport application flyer.

Community info

Community engagement

The Department of Transport and Main Roads would like to recognise the local communities of Gailes, Goodna and the surrounding areas for their ongoing patience and cooperation during the various phases of this project. In appreciation of this support, a number of community legacies will continue long after the project has finished.

One of these legacies is the noise walls along Brisbane Road at Gailes, constructed as part of the project, which features murals to commemorate local army and navy veterans. Representatives of the community including the Goodna RSL, the project’s Community Liaison Group and local community members helped choose the theme for its cultural and historical significance and to recognise the contributions of these men and women to our community.
