Labrador-Carrara Road (Currumburra Road)-Southport-Nerang Road to Cotlew Street road resurfacing

Overview:

Labrador-Carrara Road (Currumburra Road) is a major north-south arterial route linking Hope Island, Paradise Point, Labrador, Parkwood, Ashmore and Carrara and carries in excess of 30,000 vehicles daily, both commercial and private.

As a result, the road surface between Southport-Nerang Road and Cotlew Street has become worn and aged. Some sections require full reconstruction of the road pavement while others need resurfacing.

In July 2011, the Department of Transport and Main Roads commenced resurfacing and rehabilitation works which was completed on 21 December 2011. The end result is improved driving conditions as well as increased safety for motorists.

Location:

Currumburra Road between Southport–Nerang Road and Cotlew Street in Ashmore.

Benefits:
  • Resurfaced the road between Southport-Nerang Road and Cotlew Street, including the Cotlew Street roundabout.
  • Closure of the centre median to right turning traffic from Rumbalara Avenue to Currumburra Road to improve safety because of the limited sight distance at this location.
  • The existing u-turn provision at the Corporation Drive intersection has been retained.
  • Some of the larger trees were removed along the route to reduce potential roadside hazards to motorists.
  • Installation of additional streetlights to improve night time visibility and replacement of gully pits to improve road surface drainage.
Funding:

A$6.5 million has been allocated in the current Roads Implementation Program (RIP) over two years between 2010–11 and 2011–12.

Regions:
South Coast Region
