Preferred corridor now on display
The Northern Busway is part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to deliver a sustainable transport system for Brisbane’s northside communities.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has updated the draft plans, originally displayed in late 2010, based on community feedback and technical investigations.
The preferred corridor and station locations will be available on the department’s website for four weeks and at staffed public displays at the times and locations listed below.
Following the display period, the corridor is planned to be finalised and approved in late 2011.

Long-term planning: Protecting for the future
Planning for the busway corridor now will ensure land is identified and protected to meet the public transport needs in the future.
Once the corridor alignment is protected, any development proposed in the vicinity of the alignment will be assessed by the department. This will ensure:
- any new development is integrated with future busway facilities
- impacts are minimised if the busway is built
- residents and property owners have greater certainty about future plans.
Medium-term planning
Gympie Road planning study
This study will investigate Gympie Road between Stafford Road at Kedron and Roghan Road at Carseldine.
The study will be informed by investigations undertaken as part of the planning for the Northern Busway: Kedron to Bracken Ridge. Interim measures to deliver short to medium-term bus travel improvements for some sections of the busway will be investigated. These measures may include bus priority and transit lanes, queue jumps and priority signals at traffic lights.
Short-term planning
Airport Link’s impacts on Gympie Road
The department will be consulting with local residents on ways to manage future road network changes and changed traffic conditions require on Gympie Road when Airport Link opens in 2012.
Consultation is currently scheduled to start in 2011 and initially will focus on engaging residents closest to the Airport Link tunnel entrance and exits on Gympie Road, near Somerset Road at Kedron.
Connecting Brisbane North — Integrated transport solutions
The department is committed to investigating an integrated transport solution to the rapid growth and increasing demand on the roads and public transport network in Brisbane’s northern suburbs. To help plan for and manage the future transport needs in the area the department is undertaking a combination of short, medium and long-term road and transport planning projects.
