Reconstructing Central West

Overview:

The state government is getting on with the job of reconstructing flood affected roads with funding awarded for road reconstruction at various locations throughout Queensland. Over 9170km, or 28%, of Queensland’s road network was damaged by the flooding and cyclone events in 2010/2011.

Operation Queenslander is the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland's history, rebuilding communities, fixing infrastructure and restoring regional economies after flooding and cyclone events in 2010/2011. As part of Operation Queenslander, $511 million has been budgeted for reconstruction works in the Central West region.

Location:

Reconstruction works are planned for a number of state-controlled roads and highways in the Central West region, including the Landsborough Highway, Kennedy Developmental Road and Diamantina Developmental Road.

Benefits:

Queensland’s road network received more damage than any other state government asset during the flood and cyclone events of 2010/2011. Reconstruction works will make roads in the Central West region safer, stronger and more resilient to extreme weather events.

Funding:

The department is delivering the reconstruction works under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state government initiative. Under these arrangements, the Australian Government will provide 75% of the funding, with 25% from the Queensland Government.

These works are being funded as part of the $420 million Operation Queenslander works in Central West Queensland.

Regions:
Central West Region

Project info

The TNRP Central West project will see a range of works will be undertaken including formation repairs, pavement replacement, stabilisation, drainage structure repairs and bitumen re-surfacing.

Reconstruction works in the Central West will occur progressively over the next 2 years on sections of roads and highways in the region.

By working together, the department and council will aim to minimise impacts to the community and achieve a value-for-money solution.

Traffic info

While we aim to minimise impacts on road users, be aware you may experience some delays, however the department will endeavour to minimise impacts where possible.

The safety of motorists and road workers is the number one priority during the delivery of these works. Traffic signals, traffic controllers, single lane closures, speed restrictions and traffic diversions will be used as required.

Motorists should drive to the changed conditions and obey all signage for their own safety and the safety of road workers during these works.
