Project info

The Richlands to Springfield Rail project is building a new 9.5 km rail line to Springfield.

The $475 million project is scheduled for completion in 2013 and will build:

  • two train stations — Springfield (near Woodcrest College) and Springfield Central (near Orion Shopping Centre)
  • a 9.5 km dual track rail line from Richlands to Springfield
  • safety and capacity improvements on the Centenary Highway
  • changes to the local road network with two crossings under the Centenary Highway from Springfield Central station to the Orion Shopping Centre
  • a cycle path from Johnson Road, Carole Park to the Springfield Link Bridge
  • a pedestrian and cycle path between Springfield station and Springfield Central station.

Temporary cycle detour
To ensure the safety of cyclists during project construction, cycle access has been temporarily closed along the Centenary Highway between Garden Road, Richlands and Springfield Parkway, Springfield Lakes.

This closure began Monday 23 January 2012, and will stay in place until late 2012.
