Tugun Bypass Slope Stabilisation

Overview:
- Operation Queenslander is the largest reconstruction effort in Queensland's history, rebuilding communities, fixing infrastructure and restoring regional economies after flooding and cyclone events in 2010/2011.
Slope stabilisation works will be carried out on the site of a landslip on the Tugun Bypass as part of Operation Queenslander.

Slope stabilisation works will make the slope more resilient to future wet weather events and ensure safe access for road users along this major thoroughfare.

Funding:
- The flood recovery repairs will be delivered under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA), a joint federal and state initiative.
Under these arrangements, the Australian Government provides 75 per cent of the funding, with 25 per cent from the Queensland Government.
$1.8 million has been committed to the long-term slope stabilisation works.

Project info
Initial remedial repairs to clean the landslip on the Tugun Bypass were carried out in early 2011. Slope stabilisation works will be carried out to stabilise the slope, which is above the Tugun Bypass about one kilometre south of the Stewart Road interchange heading southbound.
Timing
Geotechnical investigations were carried out in December 2011 as part of planning for the slope stabilisation works. The long-term repairs are expected to be carried out in mid to late 2012.
