The Underground Bus and Train project is a new way to travel
The Underground Bus and Train project is a critical new link in South East Queensland’s public transport network. It’s also a new concept in public transport.
In a world-first, the project combines a railway and a busway in a single, double-decked, 15-metre-wide tunnel beneath the Brisbane River.
The Underground Bus and Train project includes:
- a new 5.4 kilometre north-south tunnel with connections running from Dutton Park in the south to Victoria Park in the north
- new underground stations at Woolloongabba, George Street and Roma Street.
The Underground Bus and Train project offers an economical, highly efficient transport solution drawing together the region’s 2 primary public transport networks, laying the foundation for an international standard ‘turn up and go’ transit system for Brisbane.
It will deliver the combined benefits of previous former cross-river bus and rail projects at a much more affordable cost.
The Queensland Government is working with the Brisbane City Council to deliver the project.
