Roadwork signs

Roadwork signs are used in Queensland to keep you informed of changing  conditions and to keep road workers safe.

Roadwork ahead sign

You  are approaching a roadwork site—be prepared for changed road conditions and  slow down.

If there is a speed limit on the sign, you must obey it until the next speed limit sign.


Workers sign

There  are road workers ahead on or near your path. This sign is only used while  workers are in the area.

If there is a speed limit on the sign, you must obey it until the next speed limit sign.

Speed restriction sign

The temporary speed limit on the sign applies until the next speed limit sign.


Stop/slow bat

A hand-held 2-sided stop/slow sign is held by a traffic controller. When you see the stop side of the sign you must stop and when you see the slow side of the sign you may proceed with caution.


Traffic controller ahead/Prepare to  stop sign

A  traffic controller is ahead—you must stop if you see a hand-held stop sign. This  sign is only used when a traffic controller is on duty.

If the sign says ‘Do not  overtake’ you must not overtake other vehicles while approaching the traffic  controller.

Prepare to stop sign

There may be a need to slow down and stop ahead (Traffic Controller or traffic signals).  

Temporary traffic signal sign

A temporary traffic signal is ahead.

Stop at this sign when you have a red light—there is no stop line marked on the road.

Traffic hazard ahead sign

An unexpected hazard is ahead.

Slippery sign

The road surface ahead is slippery.

Loose stones sign

There are loose stones on the road ahead.


Lane status sign

One or more lanes are closed ahead. Closed lanes are indicated with a bar at the top and open lanes are indicated with an arrow.

Line markers on road sign

There are line markers ahead that may be on or near your path. These signs are only used while workers are in the area.

Surveyors ahead sign

There are surveyors ahead that may be on or near your path. These signs are only used while workers are in the area.

Road plant ahead sign

There is machinery on the road ahead.

Road work supplementary plate

You may see this sign used with a speed restriction sign at roadworks.

End roadwork sign

You  have reached the end of a roadwork site.

Obey  the listed speed limit on the sign if there is one.

If there is no speed limit on the sign, continue to obey the speed limit on the last sign you passed.
