Young drivers
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (then Queensland Transport) launched the 'Young drivers' public education campaign in 2007. The objective of the campaign was to raise public awareness of the new rules that applied from 1 July 2007 in response to statistics that revealed that young drivers are twice as likely to be involved in fatal crashes than drivers aged 25-59.
The campaign consisted of television, cinema, press and radio advertising, along with targeted publicity. The campaign slogan was 'The new road for young drivers. It is longer, but it's safer'.
The campaign also encouraged young drivers to gain more on-road driving experience to reduce the risk of being involved in a crash.
