Subsidy scheme

An image of a school pickup area. The SafeST subsidy scheme (administered by the Queensland Department of Main Roads Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme – TIDS) aims to improve road safety in the immediate area around schools. It provides a 50 per cent subsidy to local governments for approved transport-related infrastructure work.

Projects include safety improvements such as constructing school zones, pick-up and set-down areas, pedestrian refuge islands and other traffic management devices.

All existing Queensland schools are eligible for funding, with priority given to projects with the greatest road safety need. School communities should contact their local road safety advisor to determine if a submission to the SafeST subsidy scheme is appropriate.
