Resources
The Department of Transport and Main Roads has developed resources that teachers can use to develop students' knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours as they become young drivers. The resources are organised into a number of units.
Each unit focuses on a key topic that is relevant to young drivers. The units are designed to be delivered in the classroom and comprise facilitation of group work, independent research and work tasks, and class discussions about road safety issues.

Teachers will also find additional resources, ideas on supplementing the program and ideas for the role of parents/carers.
Student driver education in context
Young driver education is a very complex area, and attempts should be made to integrate student driver education programs with explorations of related content such as personal and social values, risk taking, self-esteem and self-identity, how to deal with peer pressure, community cohesion and health protection. The aim of the student driver education program is to effectively deal with all of these contributors.
The department supports programs that increase young people's awareness of the consequences of taking risks when driving a vehicle, how they can avoid those consequences, and how they can behave in ways which reduce risk.
