Accessible Bus Program
The Department of Transport and Main Roads established the Accessible Bus Program in 1996 to provide financial assistance to urban bus operators for the purchase of an accessible vehicle.
This Queensland Government initiative, applying only to regional urban bus operators, contributes to ensuring Queensland communities receive accessible public transport services, and assists regional urban bus operators to meet their obligations under the Commonwealth's Disability Discrimination Act 1992* and the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002*.
Who is eligible for the Accessible Bus Program?
An urban regional bus operator who holds a service contract with the Department of Transport and Main Roads is eligible to apply for assistance under the Accessible Bus Program.
Financial assistance under the Accessible Bus Program is subject to review and is dependent on the available budget allocation. Each application for financial assistance under the Accessible Bus Program is subject to the department's discretion to approve or refuse the application.
Accessible Bus Program Guideline
Detailed information about eligibility for financial assistance under this government initiative, as well as an operator's responsibilities under the Program, is provided in the Accessible Bus Program Guideline (PDF, 175 KB).
Application for financial assistance
Applications for financial assistance under the Accessible Bus Program, together with supporting documentation, must be submitted to the department for consideration by completing the form below:
The department will assess the application and provide written notification to the operator of its decision.
It is important that applicants do not proceed with the order or purchase of an accessible vehicle prior to obtaining the department's written decision on their application.
