Introduction to Cairns Real Time Passenger Information System on qconnect
Save time, track your bus online
As of November 2011, residents and tourists of Cairns will be the first to trial the Real Time Passenger Information System. The system provides access to real bus departure times and an online tracker so you can locate a bus on any route.
How does the system work?
The entire Sunbus fleet operating in Cairns has been fitted with GPS and 3G modems to provide information on bus locations at approximately 25-second intervals. This information is then relayed, in real time, to:
The system provides greater access to service information and reduces waiting times at bus stops by enabling you to track your bus while at home, office or on the go. The system is a first for regional Queensland's urban bus network.
Electronic sign locations
The electronic displays are located at bus stops at the Lake Street Transit Mall, Stockland Earlville, DFO Westcourt, Smithfield Shopping Centre, Cairns Central Shopping Centre and James Cook University.
Real Time Bus Tracker
The Real Time Bus Tracker allows you to track a bus on any route within the Cairns qconnect network.
The system is being delivered by the Department of Transport and Main Roads in partnership with Transit Australia Group, trading as Sunbus in Cairns. It was developed by Queensland-owned and operated Bacchus Management Systems.
