Secure taxi ranks

An image of the qconnect logoFollowing a successful trial of secure taxi ranks in Brisbane nightclub precincts, A$4.2 million has been allocated to increase the number of secure taxi ranks across the state to boost late-night safety and security for taxi drivers and patrons.

Secure taxi ranks are operated in entertainment precincts on Friday and Saturday nights, into the early hours of the following day, and for special events such as New Year's Eve.

During their hours of operation, secure taxi ranks are staffed by rank marshals and security guards. Most of these ranks are equipped with improved lighting and signage, pedestrian safety barriers, and CCTV to help nightclub revellers get home quickly and safely.

The Queensland Government, through Transport and Main Roads, funds the provision of rank marshals and security guards at specific secure taxi ranks. Where necessary, the government has also funded or contributed to the funding of safety related rank infrastructure improvements.

The successful operation of secure taxi ranks is achieved in collaboration with the taxi industry and with the cooperation and support of councils.
