Project info

The Sunshine Coast is one of Queensland’s most popular destinations and as the region grows in popularity and size, so too does the demand for public transport and infrastructure.

The original Caboolture to Maroochydore Corridor Study was a proposal for a passenger train service for the Sunshine Coast that would also provide travellers with a fast link to Brisbane. It included an upgrade of the North Coast rail line from Caboolture to Landsborough and a new line from Beerwah to Maroochydore.

About the study

The Caloundra South Rail Corridor Realignment Study commenced in response to the draft Local Growth Management Strategy which identified the possibility of relocating the Caloundra Aerodrome site and identified an alternative alignment for the rail line through the Aerodrome between the Bruce Highway and Sugarbag Road.

Before the study was completed, the Queensland Government determined that due to the estimated costs and risks associated with the relocation, the Caloundra Aerodrome should not be moved.

The basis of the realignment study was that the aerodrome site would be available for a transport corridor. As the aerodrome site is no longer available, the Caloundra South Rail Corridor - Realignment Study was ceased with the government to continue to protect the original alignment.

The initial studies that were undertaken to investigate the merits of this alternative alignment for an EIS were not completed or consulted on with the community.
