The Department of Transport and Main Roads has adopted Australian Standard AS1742 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices as part of national harmonisation. As a result, the Queensland MUTCD will only provide requirements and recommendations specific to Queensland.
The requirements and recommendations of the Queensland MUTCD take precedence over the Australian Standard (except where the Australian Standard is accepted without changes).
Harmonisation of the Queensland MUTCD will affect all users of the MUTCD including Transport and Main Roads Regions/Districts, local government authorities, contractors and consultants. All users will need to refer to the Queensland MUTCD and the Australian Standard, the Queensland Guide to Temporary Traffic Management and Austroads.
Harmonisation of the Queensland MUTCD will be carried out in stages and is proposed for completion in 2021/2022. When a harmonised Part is published, the previous version and any related supplements will be withdrawn and will cease to have effect.
An amendment register (PDF, 409 KB) records changes to the harmonised Queensland MUTCD.
The department has prepared a Fact Sheet (PDF, 178 KB) and Frequently asked questions and answers (PDF, 171 KB) to assist users.
Where the Traffic and Road Use Management (TRUM) manual contains information that is different or contrary to that of the MUTCD, please advise Transport and Main Roads by emailing TrafficEngineering.Support@tmr.qld.gov.au.
