Barcaldine–Aramac Road widening project

Overview:

This project widened and sealed more than 6.5km of the Barcaldine-Aramac Road in central west Queensland.

Location:

About 17km south of Aramac on the Barcaldine-Aramac Road.

Completion:

May 2020.

Benefits:
  • Increased safety by providing safer overtaking and passing opportunities for cars, road trains, caravans and other vehicles. 
  • Increased network reliability through reducing the time the road is closed and/or inaccessible to motorists.
  • Improved access for the local school bus with the sealing of a bus stopping area.

Funding:

$2.09 million funded by the Queensland Government.

Project info

Works to improve the safety of the Barcaldine-Aramac Road were completed in May 2020. 

The completed project has widened more than 6.5km of road to a width of 8m, providing additional overtaking opportunities about 17km south of Aramac.

This project improves the safety of this important rural connector ensuring a reliable and resilient road network supporting access between Barcaldine and Aramac.
