Barcaldine–Aramac Road widening project

Overview:

This project will widen and seal more than 6.5km of the Barcaldine-Aramac Road in central west Queensland.

Location:

About 17km south of Aramac on the Barcaldine-Aramac Road.

Completion:

Late-2019, weather permitting.

Benefits:
  • Increased safety by providing safer overtaking and passing opportunities for cars, road trains, caravans and other vehicles. 
  • Increased network reliability through reducing the time the road is closed and/or inaccessible to motorists.
  • Improved access for the local school bus with the sealing of a bus stopping area.
Supplier:

Barcaldine Regional Council.

Funding:

$2.09 million funded by the Queensland Government.

Project info

Works to improve the safety of the Barcaldine-Aramac Road commenced in February 2019.

The completed project will widen more than 6.5km of road to a width of 8m and will also provide additional overtaking opportunities about 17km south of Aramac.

This project will improve the safety of this important rural connector ensuring a reliable and resilient road network supporting access between Barcaldine and Aramac.

Works are expected to be completed late-2019, weather permitting.
