Overview:

Upgrade of 9 intersections on the Barkly Highway in Mount Isa.

Location:

Barkly Highway in the Mount Isa urban area - from Abel Smith Parade intersection to Camooweal Street intersection.

Benefits:

This project will improve the safety for all road users, meet current design standards, improve the safety and efficiency for freight movements, and improve urban amenity and connectivity.

Funding:

$8.3 million jointly funded, 80% by the Australian Government and 20% by the Queensland Government.

The scope of the Barkly Highway (Cloncurry – Mount Isa) Intersection Upgrades in Mount Isa Urban Area scope is to upgrade 9 intersections through the urban area to address safety and traffic performance issues. This urban section of the Barkly Highway in Mount Isa has shown to have a poor crash history with a high proportion of incidents occurring at intersections. The project will improve the safety for all road users and flow of traffic at the intersections. This project is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland Governments under the Northern Australia Roads Program (NARP).
