Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road safety improvements


The Department of Transport and Main Roads is planning for and undertaking safety improvements on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road.


Along Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road from Tabragalba to Beenleigh.


To improve safety on the highest risk sections of Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road by providing a more forgiving road environment.


The Queensland Government is funding $12 million for this project under the High Risk Roads Initiative, as part of the Targeted Road Safety Program as outlined in the Queensland Transport and Roads Investment Program 2019-20 to 2022-23.

Project info

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is currently undertaking safety improvements on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road.

$12 million has been allocated to undertake works on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road for improvements to safety at Birnam and Luscombe.

Construction at Birnam started in late 2018 and was completed in June 2019. The work included shoulder widening, installation of wide centreline treatment, and clearing of hazards from the roadside.

Work at Luscombe started in April 2019 and was completed in September 2019. The work included curve widening and realignment over a 400-metre section.


The $5.88 million works on Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road between Luscombe Crescent and Dunns Road at Wolffdene was completed in March 2019. The project included shoulder widening, speed restriction signs, removal of roadside hazards and installation of additional safety guardrail.

Speed limit review

A speed limit review has been undertaken for the length of Beaudesert–Beenleigh Road.

The review considers several factors including crash history, traffic volumes, types of vehicles using the road, the geometry of the road and its role in the road network.

The findings of the review were endorsed by the local speed management committees which consists of representatives from TMR, Queensland Police Service, RACQ and the relevant local council. Speed limit changes along the road were rolled out between March and June 2019.

Key milestones

  • Late 2018: Start of roadworks at Birnam
  • March 2019: Completion of roadworks at Wolffdene
  • Mid-2019: Implementation of speed limits changes following speed limit review
  • April-2019: Start of roadworks at Luscombe
  • June-2019: Completion of roadworks at Birnam
  • September 2019: End of roadworks at Luscombe.
