Blackall–Jericho Road pave and seal


This project will pave and seal 13.2km of the Blackall-Jericho Road in central west Queensland.


Starting about 39km north of Blackall on the Blackall-Jericho Road.

Works were undertaken on 3 sections of road:

  • Stage 1: 43.83km to 47.85km
  • Stage 2: 38.92km to 43.83km
  • Stage 3: 47.85km to 52.17km


  • Stage 1 was completed at the end of February 2019
  • Stage 2 was completed in late-June 2019
  • Stage 3 was completed in late-July 2019


  • Safety improvements – improved road surface, less dust and better visibility.
  • Operational functionality – savings in time for motorists with less damage to transport operators and reduced maintenance costs.
  • Less stress to livestock by reducing road roughness and dust.
  • Reduced road maintenance costs.

$4.440 million fully funded by the Queensland Government (includes $3 million as part of the Western Roads Upgrade Supplement and $1.440 million in Transport and Infrastructure Development Scheme funding).

Project info

This road links the townships of Blackall and Jericho and enables access to services for residents in the region.

The Blackall-Jericho Road is about 120km in length and is a 2-way, single-lane road that has 2 unsealed sections totalling about 16km. The unsealed sections are mostly 8m to 10m wide.

Recent works have sealed 13.2km of the road, delivering improvements to the overall safety, efficiency and wet weather accessibility of the road.

These works were completed in July 2019. 

In addition, more than $850,000 of resurface works and road maintenance was undertaken on this road in 2017-18.
