Blackall–Jericho Road pave and seal project

Overview:

The $3 million Blackall-Jericho Road pave and seal project is fully funded by the Queensland Government through the Western Roads Upgrade Supplement, to seal to 6 metres more than 8 kilometres.

Location:

Blackall – Jericho Road.

Commencing at 38.92km, north of Blackall and continuing for 8.08km in a northerly direction towards Jericho.

  • Stage 1: 43.83km to 47.85km (north of Blackall).
  • Stage 2: 38.92km to 43.83km (north of Blackall).
Completion:

Stage 1 was completed at the end of February 2019.

Stage 2 construction commenced in March 2019, due for completion May 2019, weather permitting.

Benefits:

Significant improvements in the areas of road user safety, travel reliability and improved access for over-dimensional vehicles.

This investment in regional infrastructure will improve travel times and safety by reducing the unsealed sections on this road. There will be less dust and better visibility, providing more resilient road network links between communities.

The major benefits of the project include:

  • asset preservation – reduced maintenance costs
  • safety – improved running surface
  • operational functionality – savings in time and damage to transport operators and reduced maintenance costs
  • improved conditions for movement of livestock through reduced unsealed road sections.
Supplier:

Blackall-Tambo Shire Council are delivering the works.

Funding:

$3 million Western Roads Upgrade Supplement fully funded by the Queensland Government.

Regions:
Central Region - Central West District

Project info

This road provides a link between the townships of Blackall and Jericho and provides access to services for residents in this region.

The Blackall – Jericho Road is an approximately 120km 2-way single-lane road consisting of two unsealed road sections of approximately 18km and 11km. The unsealed sections of road are predominately 8.0m to 10.0m wide formed roads.

This project will pave and seal 8.08km of the Blackall – Jericho Road between chainages 38.92km and 47.0km.

The objective of this project is to improve the overall safety, transport efficiency and wet weather access for heavy vehicles and road users. In addition, the project will provide reduced whole of life asset management costs by strengthening and sealing the pavement which will reduce accelerated wear and damage.

This project is in addition to over $850,000 of resurface works and road maintenance on this road in 2017-18, and planned allocations of $1 million by the Outback Regional Roads and Transport Group (ORRTG) from the state government funded Transport and Development Scheme (TIDS) for Local Roads of Regional Significance for pave and surface works over the next 4 years.
