Bruce Highway Lower Don Road intersection upgrade

We are upgrading the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Lower Don Road

Bruce Highway north of Bowen

Completion:

September 2017

Benefits:

Improved safety for turning vehicles, particularly heavy vehicles accessing depots.

Funding:

$3.7 million (Australian Government)

Project info

The project will provide a channelized right turn lane from the Bruce Highway into Lower Don (travelling north to Ayr) and a left auxiliary lane from Bruce Highway to Lower Don (travelling south to Bowen.)

The changes to the left turn lane increases safety by encouraging motorists to slow down as approach to enter Lower Don Road.

Construction has been brought forward as part of the Accelerated Works Program.

An average of 11 direct jobs will be supported over the life of the project.

Key milestones

  • September 2016: Detailed design completed
  • June 2017: Construction commenced
  • September 2017: Completion expected, weather permitting
