Project info

The Bruce Highway is Queensland’s major north-south freight and commuter corridor, connecting coastal communities from Brisbane to Cairns, over 1,677km.

The highway is a key heavy vehicle route with an average of about 2,640 heavy vehicles travelling through Rockhampton every day.

In Central Queensland, traffic volumes on the Bruce Highway range from 2,600 vehicles a day in rural sections to 35,000 vehicles through urban centres.

The Bruce Highway runs through Rockhampton. This means all car and truck movements pass through the city, causing congested urban intersections with effects to safety, travel times and efficiency.

This project aims to identify priority upgrades for the Bruce Highway, including key intersections through Rockhampton. The focus of the project spans the northern and southern sides of the Fitzroy River.

The project is currently in the Planning Phase with completion expected in mid-2020.

Community consultation

During May/June 2020, feedback was invited from the local community about key congestion and safety issues being experienced on the Bruce Highway through Rockhampton from Jellicoe Street in the south to Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road in the north.

The online survey closed on Sunday 21 June 2020. Thank you to everyone who participated.
