Bruce Highway Upgrade - Deception Bay Road Interchange

Overview:

The Bruce Highway Upgrade - Deception Bay Road Interchange project will improve safety, ease congestion and cater for future traffic growth.

Location:

The Bruce Highway – Deception Bay Road interchange at Deception Bay.

Funding:

The $150 million project is funded on an 80:20 basis with the Australian Government contributing $120 million and the Queensland Government contributing $30 million.

Project info

The Bruce Highway Upgrade – Deception Bay Road Interchange Project will improve safety, ease congestion and cater for future traffic volumes.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has completed early planning for the upgrade. View the preferred design layout.

Key features

The preferred design includes the following features:

  • Two new parallel bridges over the highway and removal of the existing 2-lane bridge.
  • Upgrading 2 signalised intersections on Deception Bay Road, one immediately west of the interchange at Old Gympie Road, and 1 immediately east of the interchange at Eastern Service Road.
  • Increasing the length and capacity of existing entry and exit ramps.
  • Active transport facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Bruce Highway Upgrade – Deception Bay Road Interchange was identified as one of three priority projects during the planning for future upgrades to the Bruce Highway between Pine River and Caloundra Road interchange.

Next steps

Detailed design is underway. This is the phase where the design is refined and plans, specifications and estimates are created. Construction is scheduled to start in mid-2020.
