Project info

The Bruce Highway Upgrade – Deception Bay Road Interchange Project will improve safety, ease congestion and cater for future traffic volumes.

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has completed early planning for the upgrade. View the preferred planning layout.

Key features

The preferred planning layout includes the following features:

  • Two new 4-lane bridges over the highway to increase capacity and ease congestion.
  • Longer on and off-ramps to improve safety for motorists entering and exiting the highway.
  • Improved bridge clearance to avoid the need for vehicles with high loads to detour on other roads
  • Provision for active transport.

Intersections immediately west of the interchange at New Settlement and Old Gympie Roads and the connecting road network to the east of the interchange will also be upgraded as part of the project.

Next steps

Detailed design is underway. This is the phase where the design is refined and plans, specifications and estimates are created. Construction is scheduled to start in 2020.
