Bruce Highway Upgrade—Deception Bay Road Interchange

The Deception Bay Road interchange upgrade project was delivered as part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade to improve safety, ease congestion and cater for future traffic growth.

Key features

  • Provided 2 new parallel bridges over the Bruce Highway and removed the existing 2-lane bridge.
  • Upgraded 2 signalised intersections on Deception Bay Road, 1 immediately west of the interchange at Old Gympie Road, and 1 immediately east of the interchange at Eastern Service Road.
  • Increased the length and capacity of existing on and off ramps.
  • Provided active transport facilities for pedestrians and bike riders, through the provision of on road cycle lanes and a safe dedicated off road shared path (pedestrian and cycle path) connection for bike riders to cross the Bruce Highway.

Current status

Major construction on this project was completed in April 2023, with the upgraded interchange officially opened on 4 May 2023.

The major construction contract was undertaken by BMD Constructions Pty Ltd.
