Bruce Highway (Innisfail – Cairns) and Munro street (Babinda) intersection upgrade

The department is progressing a project to upgrade the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Munro Street at Babinda.

Extensive consultation has been conducted in the planning phase of the project with all the community feedback considered in the final design of the intersection. The project will improve safety for all road users and offers economic benefits for the community through improved travel reliability.

Current status

We are currently in discussions with Queensland Rail on the scope and progression of stage 2 works. 

Stage 1 was completed in late 2021, which involved road widening and resurfacing.

Stage 2 will focus on the upgrades to the intersection which crossed the Queensland Rail north coast line.
