Bruce Highway Upgrade Program: Collingvale dual overtaking lanes

This package of work will build 2 new overtaking lanes on the Bruce Highway between Proserpine and Bowen near Collingvale Road.

These works are part of the Bruce Highway Upgrade Program (BHUP), a $12.6 billion, 15-year program of works (2013-14 to 2027-28) jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments to improve the safety, flood resilience and capacity of the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Cairns.

Bruce Highway (Between Proserpine and Bowen)

Early 2021

The project will deliver safety benefits to road users and reduce driver frustration by:

  • improving overtaking opportunities and travel times
  • increasing freight and heavy vehicle management along this corridor.

Total package – $12.57 million, fully funded by the Australian Government.

Central Region - Mackay Whitsunday District

Project info

The project will provide both northbound and southbound overtaking lanes at Collingvale Road, 16km north of Proserpine. This will involve widening, drainage works, rehabilitation of the existing road and upgrading a nearby truck-stopping bay.

The overtaking lanes will be constructed at the same time, reducing the overall duration of the project and minimising impacts to road users.

Key milestones

  • Mid-2019: Tenders called for construction
  • Mid-2019: Tender award for construction
  • Late-2019: Construction start
  • Early-2021: Project completion

Community info

Two-way traffic flow will be maintained for most of the construction works. Single-lane operation will be required at certain stages of the project. During work operations, traffic controllers will be used.
