Project info

Bruce Highway traffic growth has resulted in road users experiencing longer travel times.

This section of the Bruce Highway south of Miriam Vale is primarily a 2-lane 2-way rural road with limited overtaking opportunities with undulating terrain and continuous traffic flow.

The project will construct a 1.5km southbound overtaking lane improving driver safety and improving travel times, which will compliment four existing overtaking lanes in the area.  There will be significant earthworks including formation widening and reconstruction, drainage structure improvements, bitumen surfacing, installation of traffic barriers and clear zone clearing.

This project focuses on three priority areas; Safety improvements, flood improvements and capacity improvements.  Upgrading the Bruce Highway will bring significant benefits to the road user as well as the communities along the highway.

This project is part of the 15-year Bruce Highway Upgrade Program, a $12.6 billion program of works to improve safety, flood resilience and capacity along the Bruce Highway from Brisbane to Cairns.  The program is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments
