Bruce Highway safety improvements (Wide Bay/Burnett)

Overview:

The projects involve upgrading various sections of the highway to improve safety and traffic efficiency.

Location:

Various locations between Curra and north of Gin Gin.

Completion:

Works commenced in September 2015 and will be progressively rolled out through to late 2018, weather permitting.

Benefits:

The treatments will improve safety and efficiency along the length of the Bruce Highway in the Wide Bay/Burnett District.

Project info

The projects involve upgrading various sections of the highway to improve safety and traffic efficiency.

Works being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s Bruce Highway Safety Package include:

  • widening sections to incorporate a wide centre line treatment (WCLT) to provide greater separation between motorists travelling in opposite directions
  • applying audio tactile line marking on centre/edge lines
  • removing or protecting roadside hazards
  • improving the safety of various intersections.
  • Works being delivered as part of the Australian Government’s overtaking lanes program include:
  • constructing new overtaking lanes to provide additional opportunities for motorists to safely complete passing manoeuvres along the highway
  • undertaking improvements to existing overtaking lanes.

The Department of Transport and Main roads is engaging with adjacent property owners about the works and associated impacts prior to construction commencing at each site.
