Project info

Transport and Main Roads has commenced design work to increase traffic capacity and relieve congestion on Deception Bay Road from Anzac Avenue intersection to west of Morris Road intersection, Rothwell.

The $6 million upgrade will widen Deception Bay Road from 2 to 3 lanes in both directions from Morris Road intersection to connect to the three lanes constructed in 2017 through the Anzac Avenue intersection.

The extra lanes on Deception Bay Road will increase capacity and efficiency of this busy network as well as reduce congestion at Morris Road and Anzac Avenue intersections.

To accommodate for the 3 lanes, approximately 600 metres of parking will be removed from the western side of Deception Bay Road to the north of the Shell Service Station. Off-street parking is available for customers accessing businesses at this location.

Dedicated on-road cycle lanes will also be provided on Deception Bay Road between Anzac Avenue and Morris Road intersections. More people cycling more often to work, school, recreation and shopping helps to manage increasing demands on our transport infrastructure. It reduces congestion and air pollution and improves people’s health and well-being.

Pedestrians also benefit with dedicated pedestrian facilities to be provided on both sides of the road, with connectivity to McKillop Park.

Once completed, a third lane through the Anzac Avenue intersection will open to provide a continuation of 3 lanes in both directions on Deception Bay Road from Anzac Avenue merging back into 2 lanes in each direction north of the Morris Road intersection.

Design work is scheduled to be completed by mid-2019 with construction anticipated to begin by late 2019.
